New Trends Nailed!

December 14, 2012 — 3 Comments

Its been a busy week in the world of nail trends! We’ve been very excited about some of the new developments being released;

First up, there is the much hyped Bling It On Leather & Skulls from Nails Inc, which were released yesterday. There are two shades to chose from; black and tan.  Although they were running a waiting list, it appears you can still get your mitts on these through the Nails Inc site for £19 per set.

We were super excited to see that the clever guys at MUA Cosmetics are releasing fur-effect nails for only £3! We’re really becoming massive fans of MUA, they’re so creative and quick of the mark, as well as being ridiculously well priced! Similarities have been drawn to another brand’s “Velvet” nails, but like with the MUA Nail Constellations, we think that making the option to experiment affordable is to be applauded!

Our favourite shades are Fluff & Cuddles and Fluffy Bobbin, they’re due to be released on the MUA online store later today. Let us know if you get your mitts on any!

OPI revealed one of their new Liquid Sand varnishes on twitter yesterday too, which will be launched for 2013. How gorgeous is this Mariah Carey Shade?

It’s safe to say that next year is going to be all about textured nails. We wonder what weird and wonderful things will be adorning our nails come this time next year? What do you think will be a massive trend?

Letter to Santa…

santaDear Santa,
We’ve been very good girls this year (well most of the time) and we thought we’d submit our Christmas list now. We know you’re going to be busy fulfilling the wishes of all the little boys and girls, but we hope you take some time to make some slightly (ahem) older girls very happy this year! We won’t bother with the mince pie and milk, there’ll be a Heston’s Xmas pudding and a scotch waiting for you if you grace our chimney. You’ll actually have to knock on the door as we don’t have a chimney….in fact it might be better if you use one of the very reliable courier companies around instead now we think about it….
NEW-Limited-Edition-Whole-Lotta-Colour

We would really, really like a Clinique Chubby Stick Collection box, but we hear it’s sold out. So if you could work some Christmas magic, that would be great, but if not we’ll still be happy with their Whole Lotta Colour gift set please.
Catch me if you can

We’re so in love with the handcrafted jewellery from Alyssa Smith! Please, please, please could we have one of her beautiful Catch Me If You Can gingerbread bracelets? We promise we’ll be really good next year too…

sleep_candle

We’re not getting that much sleep at the moment so we’d be really grateful if you would bring us one of Abhana’s Sleep Candle. They’re supposed to smell divine, and they might help us get a good nights sleep!

silk slippers

If you have time to get your Elves to pop onto Holistic Silk’s website and order us some of their stunning silk massage slippers, we’d be eternally grateful, our tootsies are getting cold and we really could do with relaxing a little!

the-in-crowd-colour-collection

Painting our nails keeps us busy and makes sure we’ve got less time to get on the naughty list, so really bringing us The In Crowd colour collection from Nails Inc would be a good idea all round. There are enough colours here to keep us well behaved for ages…!
luxury-matte-lipstick

We know red is your colour, and you’ll be pleased to know it’s ours too! Please could we have this Daniel Sandler Luxury Matt Lipstick? You could buy it for Mrs Clause too, we’re sure she loves a lippie as much as we do…

coco

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle is our favourite scent of all time, so if you do happen to be stuck for ideas, a bottle of this would be just fine…

Caviar-&-Oyster-Travel-Brush-Set

Oh and finally, just in case you have a spare moment, if you could grab us the Bobbi Brown Caviar & Oyster Travel Brush Set, we’ll be very happy girlies!

Thank you very much, we promise to stay off the naughty list next year too!
Lots of Love,

Sometimes personalised gifts can be a little, how can we say it…..tacky?! That said, when a great product is personalised, they really can make touching gifts. We really love the Couture option from Nails Inc.and think it would a great gift for a beauty addict this Christmas.

More Magnets!

November 16, 2012 — Leave a comment

After our Magnetic Attraction article the other day, where we reviewed BarryM and Nails Inc polishes, we got a bit of a taste for them! So whilst we fancied a treat this lunchtime, we decided to avoid the cakes and head to our nearest Superdrug, where we purchased this gorgeous MUA Magnetic polish in the Mayfair shade!

Two quick coats and we were done, and it definitely brightened up our day, especially as it only cost £3.50! Obviously we can’t tell you how well it lasts yet, but definitely applies well and we love the squiggle effect.

Check out the rest of the range here.

No one can have failed to notice that magnetic nail varnishes are everywhere at the moment. It seems there are still quite a lot of people who are yet to try them though. Possibly because we’ve had quite a lot of nail trends lately and they can look a bit tacky (crackle glaze anyone?). We decided to try a couple out and see if this is just another fad or one that will keep you stylish throughout the Autumn/Winter.

We tried two different brands at opposite ends of the price spectrum so you can see which stood out from the crowd. Here’s what we thought….

Brand: BarryM

Shade: 346 Sparkle Red

Price: £4.99

This is a varnish is a gorgeous silver colour with dark red pigments. The magnet gives a really vivid striped effect which is very distinctive. Two coats is enough to get the most out of the colour and it finishes to an almost foil shine which becomes even more pronounced with a top coat. Polish lasted 3-4 days without chipping.

Brand: Nails Inc

Shade: Kensington Palace

Price: £13

We love this dark red shade for this time of year. The fact that the magnet brings out a darker colour gives it a classy, sophisticated effect. As with most Nails Inc varnishes this one applies very well, covering the nail on the first coat, although we did find you have to apply quite a heavy second coat for the magnet to be able to work. However, both coats dried relatively quickly. The pattern is a marbled, almost spotty effect which we loved. This polish lasted 4/5 days with a top coat before chipping, a top coat is definitely required as it has a more matt finish on its own.

Our Verdict

We loved both of these polishes and really think the magnetic trend is a style we’ll keep calling upon for the foreseeable future. We think the BarryM polish is great for a night out or to bring a bit of bling to your day, whilst the Nails Inc is a great long lasting polish for wearing everyday, especially if you want a more “mature” version of the trend. Despite the £9 price difference between the two brands, we would definitely purchase more magnetic polishes from both brands.

Top Tips

With all magnetic polishes, always shake well before each application to ensure the metal particles are well dispersed. Apply one coat to all nails and let them dry. Then apply a thicker second coat and hold the magnet above the nail for 2 – 3 seconds, being careful not to smudge the nail by touching it. Do this one nail at a time to ensure you don’t allow the varnish to dry or the magnetic effect won’t appear.

Most brands use different magnets which create different effects. To get a different look, use the magnets from other brands to get different patterns with your favourite colours.

Let us know your favourite metallic polishes and tweet us your pics of the patterns you create.

Thanks for reading.
